He is a Nigerian unionist, educationist, and politician currently serving as the governor of Kebbi State. Dr. Idris has held various distinguished positions, including National Treasurer, National President of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, and Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress. He is widely recognised as ``Kwaran Gwandu`` and is known as the only ``Comrade Governor`` in Nigeria. Notably, he is the first teacher to be elected as a governor of a state in Nigeria.

In May 2022, Dr. Idris became the Kebbi State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate during the APC primary election. On April 17, 2023, he was declared the winner of the 2023 Kebbi State gubernatorial election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Dr. Idris attended The Polytechnic Birnin Kebbi from 1994 to 2003 and Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto, from 2006 to 2009, where he obtained his MBA. He also holds a PhD in Education and has authored numerous academic papers on the subject.

His experience in the education sector has provided him with a profound understanding of the challenges faced by teachers, students, and workers in Nigeria. Dr. Nasir Idris has also served Kebbi State in various capacities, including as a former chairman of both the Nigerian Union of Teachers and the Nigerian Labour Congress in Kebbi State.
