Security and Sovereignty: Governor Idris’s Pledge to Protect Kebbi at All Costs

While development is crucial, it cannot happen without a fundamental foundation: security. Recently, following a deadly banditry attack in Tadurga town, the Emir of Zuru led a delegation to Governor Nasir Idris with a desperate “save our soul” request.

The governor’s response was not just decisive; it was a powerful statement of principle. He declared, “I will do whatever is humanly possible to protect the lives of the people, even if it means emptying the state treasury.”

This bold pledge underscores that for Governor Idris, the protection of life and property is the non-negotiable priority of any responsible government. He recognizes that economic fortunes are meaningless if citizens’ lives are under constant threat.

While development is crucial, it cannot happen without a fundamental foundation: security.

His strategy is two-fold:

  1. Immediate State Action: He has already mobilized substantial resources, providing over 50 Hilux vehicles and 2,000 motorcycles to security forces and vigilantes to improve mobility and response in difficult terrains.

  2. Federal Collaboration: He has concluded plans to personally present critical requests to President Bola Tinubu. These include appeals for more manpower, sophisticated weapons, and the establishment of additional special military units to address the complicated geographical terrain of Kebbi, which borders two international republics and three states.

This approach shows a leader who is willing to make genuine sacrifices and utilize resources judiciously for the sake of his people’s safety, demonstrating that true security is the first dividend of democracy.
